The visions appeared without explanation.
At first they were treated as decoration. Repeated motifs, loosely arranged. Nothing to suggest sequence or hierarchy.
After some time, patterns began to surface.
Certain figures appeared near specific symbols. Lines connected shapes that did not seem related at first glance. The same forms returned, but slightly altered each time.
No one agreed on what they meant.
Some read them as instructions.
Others as records.
A few insisted they were neither, only remnants of something that had already lost its context.
The visage did not clarify this.
It simply carried the fragments.
OBSERVATION
Certain habits become visible only in stillness. How long a hand rests before turning a page.
Where the body settles when there is no instruction. What is adjusted, and what is left as is.
These are not decisions. They appear over time. Once noticed, they are difficult to ignore.

Closer observation made things less certain.
The figures did not behave consistently. A symbol that appeared stable in one section would distort in another. Lines that suggested direction would loop back without conclusion.
Attempts were made to map the relationships.
Most were abandoned.
There was a tendency to look for meaning where there may have only been repetition. Or to assume repetition meant meaning.
Neither approach held for long.
Those who spent more time with it stopped trying to decode the system.
They began noticing how it affected their own thinking instead.

Most of the annotations were never completed.
Sentences begin and then stop. Lines are drawn and then crossed out. Certain sections are marked repeatedly without any added explanation.
It is unclear whether the system was abandoned or simply understood well enough to no longer require notes.
The fragments remain in use.
