The folio was found scorched, its margin notes inverted, the ink reversed as if written for a mirror not yet made. The drawing shows only half a skull, lines drifting into nothing like a thought abandoned midstream.

The Latin gloss reads: Corpus mentis est labyrinthus, the body of the mind is a labyrinth. Archivists disagree, insisting this hand belongs to Leonardo da Vinci. But the annotations name corridors that appear in no known anatomy, paths shaped for something that thinks but does not sleep.
